Cadmium analysis by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy

Weighed test portions of ground rice grain or rice plant samples are placed in a 50-ml screw-capped tube and added with concentrated HNO3 and H2O2. Samples are pre-digested overnight at ambient temperature (22 ºC -- 26 ºC). Samples are then placed in a temperature-controlled block digestor for 30 minutes at 80 ºC, and then 2 hours at 125 ºC. After cooling, samples are diluted with deionized water and agitated in a shaker at 180 rpm for 5 minutes. Samples are left to settle for 1 hour before being analyzed using GFAAS.


Note: To determine Cd, the sample weight required is at least 3 g of plant sample.
